Television Research
The reason I have started this blog is I would like to know more about the impact that television has had on the public over the years. While there is much literature on the the content of television, there seems to be very little on the effects of the device itself. Considering the amount of time we spend in front of TV & computer screens I think it is a worthy avenue of investigation.
In my efforts to find out as much as possible I will be looking at the following articles/book/papers:
The Republic (Book VII) – Plato [best know as 'Plato's allegory of the cave']
Four Arguments for the Ellimination of Television – Jerry Mander
Tyranny of Television – Jerry Mander
Mass Mind Control Through Network Television Are Your Thoughts Your Own – Alex Ansary
Television Addiction Is No Mere Metaphor – Robert Kubey and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Brainwave Measures of Media Involvement – Herbert E Krugman
Training Visual Attention – Thomas B Mulholland
What They Don’t Want You To Know About Television and Videos – Lawrence Kelemen
The Mean World Effects of Reality Television – Kristin M. Barton
Remotely Controlled – Dr. Aric Sigman
The Perfect Machine: Television and The Bomb – Joyce Nelson
[This lis will be updated over time as I find more and more resorces]
